BKB's communities span the globe and cover a wide range of industry sectors and philanthropic causes, along with many that are close to home in New York and Virginia. People lie at the heart of BKB’s business philosophy, and the firm actively seeks to promote philanthropy and develop its team members as they navigate careers inside the courtroom and beyond.

Pro Bono

Pro bono matters are a recent addition to BKB’s client portfolio and a focus area. BKB assisted Junior Achievement Worldwide on a matter involving international payments. It also helped a local art dealer successfully navigate litigation concerning its website.

Philanthropy

BKB has a long standing partnership with the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, VA, and is a gold sponsor of the newly opened CHKD Mental Health Hospital that provides critical care for children and teens in the Hampton Roads area.

  • BKB’s support of CHKD takes many forms; multi-year sponsorship and attendance at the primary fundraising gala, donation of live auction items, and participation on the CHKD Fundraising Executive Committee.

    Other charitable sponsorships include the Virginia Stage Company and the Virginia Opera. The firm also supports its staff and clients through individual sponsorship of other philanthropic causes.

Career Development

Education is center stage at BKB and inherent in everything we do. To attract and retain exceptional talent, BKB sponsors several career initiatives including summer internships, work experience programs, and financial support for further education.

  • Summer internship programs for undergraduate and law school students, plus a partnership with a high school in Norfolk, provide career experience for students and a taste of what it’s like to work in a busy legal practice.

    BKB also sponsors staff (attorneys and business professionals) to pursue degrees and professional certifications while working full-time. The firm recognizes and supports two alternative paths to becoming a licensed attorney: the Legal Apprenticeship Program (NY) and the Law Reader Program (VA).
